Russel Meyer, Jr.

1996
Kansas Aviation Hall of Fame

Meyer is the only Kansan to receive both the National Aeronautic Association’s Wright Brothers Memorial Trophy and the Collier Trophy. As chairman and CEO of Cessna Aircraft Company, he led the company through both prosperous and difficult years. He served on presidential commissions during the Reagan, Bush, and Clinton Administrations. He was instrumental in the passage of the General Aviation Revitalization Act of 1994, which has allowed the production of light aircraft to resume following a decade of product liability litigation. Under his leadership, Cessna created a program in Wichita that provided jobs in the aerospace workforce for minority and disadvantaged young people. An active pilot with 13,000 hours of flight time, he flew everything from military fighters to single engine aircraft.
