Gary Burrell  began his career working for King Radio in 1963. He developed  some of King’s most successful navigation and communication devices. In 1983, Min Kao joined Allied King and led the team that developed the first Global Posting System (GPS) certified by the FAA. In 1989, Burrell and Kao decided to pool their personal finances and start a business to take advantage of the satellite constellation system. The “Garmin” company name reflects a combination of the founders, Gary and Min. Their first GPS, was designed to fit in the panel of an aircraft, but could be used in marine and motor vehicles as well. The Garmin Company, Located in Olathe, Kansas, has furnished over 100 million products, leading in the GPS market for all general aviation aircraft.
