Miner was a professor of business history at Wichita State University and has written twenty-one books on local history. He authored Borne on the South Wind: A century of Kansas Aviation, published by the Wichita Eagle Press in July 1994. The book was a comprehensive history of flight in Kansas, and described the invention, development and production of aircraft in the state since the first experiments in powered flight. In addition to the famous Kansans who have contributed to the development of the industry, the book presents the story of the many companies that have manufactured un-flyable contraptions, light planes, bombers, and fighters.
