The Learjet 23 was the first model produced by the Learjet Corporation. Bill Lear moved his company to Wichita because of the strength of this city’s aviation sector. In only 9 months he developed the Learjet 23. The luxury business jet was the first of its kind, so Bill Lear flew across the countries attempting to convince celebrities and wealthy businessmen that they needed private jets. To add ambience to his luxury (yet noisy) plane, Lear set his team to work on a music system for his jets. The result was Stereo 8, commonly known as ‘8 track.’ In fact, some old 8 track tapes are stamped with Learjet branding.
