The F-84F “Thunderstreak” was a swept wing variant of the Republic Thunderjet released in 1954. Although most F-84 models were made by Republic Aviation in Farmingdale, New York, some of the Thunderstreaks (including this one) were produced by General Motors in Kansas City, Kansas. Both Cessna and Beechcraft provided parts the Kansas City run of F-84s, ensuring that this jet was assembled with part from all over the state of Kansas. Although earlier straight wing Thunderjets were used extensively by the Air Force in the Korean War, the Thunderstreak, did not provide the improved performance the military hoped to see from the project. Maintenance issues caused the Air Force to phase out the F-84Fs by 1958.
