House worked for the United States Air Force as a crew chief mechanic, and  retired as a Master Sargent after 23 years in Southeast Asia. Upon returning to Kansas, House joined Boeing Wichita where he worked in the Publications Department writing aircraft manuals. Upon his retirement he volunteered with the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 88, the Ox-5 Organization, the Kansas Aviation Museum, and the Wichita Aviation Centennial Panel of Historians. House served as the curator and a member of the Board of Trustees for the Kansas Aviation Museum.
