Harold Neumann

1997
Governor’s Aviation Honor Award

Neumann’s pilot’s license was signed by Orville Wright in 1929. He was a barnstormer and air racer during the depression, and became the fastest pilot by winning two national air races in 1935. He flew for TWA from 1936 to 1966, and set jet airline speed records from Paris to New York, and from London to Washington. After retirement, he was a skywriter and flew in aerobatic competitions until his early eighties. Neumann accumulated over 30,000 hours of flight time. A longtime resident of Kansas City, he was inducted into the OX-5 Aviation Hall of Fame in 1971.
