Jan Roskam

Governor’s Aviation Honor Award

Although born In The Hague, Netherlands, Roskam made Kansas his home. He trained hundreds of students as a Distinguished Professor of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Kansas. Roskam’s innovative research is recorded in 20 textbooks, 11 archival papers, 13 NASA reports, 41 Industrial reports and numerous technical publications. He was instrumental in the development of the surface flight control system used on the Beech Diamond and Starship. He played a major role in the design development for many aircraft manufacturer In Wichita, and his achievements in aeronautical design have been recognized by numerous awards from national scientific and educational organizations. He continues to be recognized as one of the county’s outstanding engineering educators.
