Copeland flew in 12 transcontinental air races, including 10 Power Puff Derby’s. She served on the board at the National Aviation Hall of Fame in, as well as the World Aerospace Education Organization, and co-chaired the World Aviation Education Safety Congress in New Delhi, India, in 1985. A strong supporter of women in aviation, she served as president of the Ninety-Nines, an international organization of licensed women pilots. She acquired Amelia Earhart’s childhood home for the Ninety-Nines, and led the fundraising campaign to build the headquarters building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Her most tireless effort was her work with the Wichita Aeronautical Historical Association, where she served as part president and board trustee to establish an air museum in Wichita, Kansas.
