In 1927, Brown joined the United States Marines to become a pilot, but was assigned to sea duty. He eventually took flying lessons, soloed in a Travel Air 4000, and obtained his pilot’s license in 1933. He became an instructor for a Cessna dealership in Denver where he met Dwane Wallace, President of Cessna Aircraft Company. Wallace was so impressed with Brown’s flying skills that he offered to make him a Sales Manager and Test Pilot for Cessna. During his career at Cessna as Chief Pilot of Production Flight Testing, he certified more than 85,000 new aircraft. He Logged 14,000 first flight in 29 model series and accumulated nearly 21,000 flight hours. In 2003, he was inducted into the Legion of Honor and the OX-5 Aviation Pioneers Hall of Fame. He was given the Wright Brothers “Master Pilot Award” by the Federal Aviation Administration.
