Aviation Learning Labs
TECHNOLOGY

  • Aviation Robotics- This awesome program is about Robotics.  Robotics have been major movement in aviation technology.  Unmanned Air Vehicles are a great example of robotics.  There is no pilot in the driver seat.  Students will learn about UAV’s and how it affected aviation.  As teams, they will learn about Lego teamwork, programming, and robotic building.  Once they are done, they will execute our robotic challenge. This program is limited to 24 student maximum.

HISTORY

  • Art Deco- This program will let student explore their artistic side, while learning about Art Deco.  Students will learn about how the Art Deco movement affect the design of Wichita’s first major airport.  They will learn about the elements of the building.  Once they have been taught, they will get to make an artwork of their own in Art Deco style.

  • Wichita’s Aviation History- Students will get an opportunity to learn about aviation legends, fighter aces, female pilots, and companies that call it home.  After learning about it, we will have round of Aviation History Jeopardy, Aviation Taboo, and Aviation Takeover.  This is an interactive historical program.

Grade level: 6th to 12th

  • Breaking Boundaries- Students will learn about how women, African American, and Hispanic broke through into the Aviation Industry.  After learning the pioneers, they will do hands on historical activities.

  • Air Travel- They will learn about the states and their aviation importance.  Students will get participate in our Air Travel Jeopardy and Air Travel Scavenger Hunt.

ENGINEERING

  • Up, Up, and Away- This program is for your balloon enthusiast. Students will learn about principles of air and how they affect hot air balloons, gliders, helicopters, and parachutes. Once they have learned about the principles, they will enter the Da Vinci Design Challenge. May the slowest win!!

  • From Blueprints to Flight- This program is all about Engineering! Students will learn about the engineering process and how it is used in aviation. Students will be challenged with creating a new airplane using airfoil design, wing design, multi-wings, material testing, and prototype building.

Grade level: 3rd to 12th

MATH/SCIENCE

  • Wichita Air Traffic Control- This program highlights the importance of Air Traffic Control. Students will get to learn about how controllers use simple math like speed, distance, and time. Once they have learned those skills, they will get to go through our Air Traffic Control simulation. Students, also, will learn about Airport and Runway basics with an Airport Design Challenge.

  • Plane Math Challenge- Students will be challenged in our Plane Math Challenge using different equations like inequalities and ratios.  These team building activities like Lost Pilot, Plane Islands, and The Great Plane Race give students a chance to use math and build their teamwork skills.

Grade Level: 4th to 12th

  • Helicopter 101- This program will teach students about the helicopter history, how a helicopter works.  They will participate in our “City Search and Rescue.”

Grade level: 6th to 8th
KES: Common Core for 6th to 8th Grade

  • Wacky Weather- They will learn about weather and how it affects pilots.  They will analyst weather patterns with different flight paths.  They will make a windsock and cloud chart.

Grade level: 2nd to 4th Grade
KES: (K-2) Science 4.3, (3-4) Science 4.3

  • Youth Ground School- This program give them a taste of real flight. Students will learn about GPS, Flight Planning, and Pre-Flight. Once they have master the skills needed, students will get to fly on our flight simulators. They will use different math techniques to flight plan; and learn about how weather affects pilots. Maximum students for this program: 25 Students.
